Youthful Inspiration

The number of jobs available to young people in Britain has drastically dwindled in the recession, leaving many young people and graduates struggling to find work.  Yet these young people are a valuable resource and can provide the workforce with fresh perspectives and energy.

We currently have two young people on one-year placements, the first is Leeds Met Business student Lauran Cross, who joined us as an Administrator and the second is Ranbir Singh who joined our brand design and digital agency, BrandNew, as a Runner.

Work placements are a great way for us to get fresh perspectives and new ideas into the business and have proved to be very successful for us in the past.  Having had the chance to demonstrate their abilities and gain an understanding of the company one of our most recent work placements resulted in the young person moving into a permanent position within the group.

As well as offering work experience opportunities across the business we are also working with Leeds Ahead to provide school children with inspiration and information about the world of work.  Some of our staff members were recently involved in a careers day for a group of 9-10 year olds who are particularly vulnerable or lack a positive role model at home.  Three female staff members are also currently working with a Girls Mentoring Group, helping 11-12 year old girls to understand what it’s like to go to work and the careers that are available.

Our involvement with Backing Young Britain and mentoring projects means we can provide young people with the inspiration and experience to encourage them to get excited about their future career.  Working with and mentoring young people also provides our staff with personal development opportunities and adds diversity and enthusiasm to our workforce.
